The Baptistery of St. John sports three sets of bronze doors, two sets that took 15th century sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti 50 years to complete. Michelangelo described Ghiberti's east-facing doors as fit for the "Gates of Paradise," and the name has held since then.

Giotto's Belltower uses the same coloured marble as the Duomo; white from Carrara, green from Prato and red from Siena. Three different architects worked on this 84.7 m (278 ft.) structure.
