Ponte Vecchio Even though they were ordered to blow up all the bridges in Florence upon their departure, the Nazis couldn't bring themselves to destroy the charismatic Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence. In 1565 Cosimo I de'Medici added the Corridorio Vasariano, an upper level, as his own personal crossing from his offices to his home, Pitti Palace.
